Alhambra Palace,
The Last of the Moorish Muslim Nasrid Dynasty, was left behind when Muhammad XII surrendered all to Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand.
One of the most beautiful courtyards in the Alhambra Palace. A water fountain of twelve lions made of marble with an inscription of a poem.
The Hammam, Arab Baths in Andalus was sublime, has mosaic interiors and several pool-like baths with various water tempertures to relax! There are two tea rooms where you can enjoy their local teas in a retreat-like setting. I had a one hour massage, after you can rest on a heated stone. The Hammam is truly a tranquil and serene feel to soak away all the fatigue from traveling, the perfect way to start a vacation!
The Hammam,has lockers for your change of clothes, make sure you bring your swimsuit. Also, book massage appointment in advance. Enjoy your visit!

The entertaining flamenco show is a must to experience. The intensity and beauty of the culture becomes alive with the guitar, and beautiful brightly flamboyant flamenco colored dresses, along with song and dance!

On the hills of Sacromonte at the edge of Albayzin, are the caves of Sacromonte that have been home of a community of Gypsies between Andalusian, Castilians, Moors and Jews.
Here is a Camino de Santiago arrow in Granada! You can find this Camino arrow at Plaza de Santo Domingo; if you are a Camino fan, you can appreciate this arrow, not an easy find!
Iglesia de Santo Domingo, is located in the city center of Granada, in the Realejo neighborhood. This church is considered one of the most famous churches in Granada. This church was built in the 16th century by the Catholic Monarchs was part of the Monastery of the Holy Cross. The architectural styles are Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance.

A hidden gem as I stumbled into while looking for my Camino arrow. I walked under this ancient archway and look at what I happened to find. This lovely gem connects to the Iglesia de Santo Domingo, and the entrance is on the side of the church.

The Battle of Lepanto
This explicit artistic mural is a painting about the Battle of Lepanto, a great victory on the Oct. 7,1571. The battle was against the Ottoman Turkish Empire and the Catholic Christians Europe. The mural is a remembrance of the fierce bloodshed conflict over religion and territory between the Muslim and Catholic Christians. John of Austria displayed a banner of the crucified Christ on his flagship Real.

The pope asked all the Catholic and Protestants to pray the Rosary; the soldiers prayed and cried out to the Mother of God to help them in the war for the glory of her Son. To this day the Catholic Christians celebrate the,Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rossary, on Oct. 7th.

Two most prominent rulers of Spain, Queen Isabel, and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, their tombs are resting in a wrought-iron grille screen.

Domenico Francelli, an Italian Sculptor, designed the royal tomb made of Carrara marble. This final resting place has tremendous religious meaning due to Queen Isabel who was a woman of God and prayer.

Puerta Monaita
This monument of the medieval period sadly endures as the object of vandalism. It would be nice if this could be restored. However, this landmark,a massive defensive gate, was built in the 11th century by the Nasrids to defend the northern part of the Alhambra.

This ia a courtyard of the monestery, once housed Carthusian Monks. Their place of worship was elaborate.

A serene garden that Queen Isabel dedicated in memory of the Christian Martyrs who suffered and died during the Nasrid dynasty.
Montefrio
Montefrio is a whitewashed village that is 35 miles from Granada. National Geographic listed Montefrio as being one of the best views in the world.

The King’s Little Pathway
Located in Malaga, Spain, well worth the trip. It was named because of King Alfonso XIII crossed the walkway in 1921 for the inauguration of the dam. This pathway was known as the most dangerous due to the deterioation of time. It has been renovated and is much safer to hike.

The trail hangs from the side of the mountain, it has breathtaking views, and a swinging bridge is a must to experience the beauty of the cliffs!

Monachil is a small town about 5 miles from Granada. Here you will find various hiking trails.

I enjoyed my visit to Granada; it was amazing and lovely! To appreciate Granada, one must visit more than three days to enjoy the true beauty and splender of Granada!

  1. My daughter spent three months in Granada as part of her ‘immersion’ period whilst studying for her university Spanish degree. She was accommodated in the Albaicin. She enjoyed it all immensely. It was between 104F and 110F for the first three days that she was staying there. Phew!!!

    1. Yes, that sounds like the summer months of 104 F! I was there in February the temperature was perfect 55F at night and day time was 70F to 80F! I’m sure she just enjoyed her 3-month visit!! I just absolutely enjoyed my stay in Granada!
